  • Notes
    • In 1984, EWBB hypothesized in her notes the following family connections:
Elizabeth Jane Bigham, daughter of William (1780) Bigham married James Columbus Bigham, son of William (2) Bigham. She claimed they were second cousins, which made their grandfather's brothers. If these relationships are true, then William (1780) was the son of a brother to Nathaniel Bigham, whose name is unknown, but may have been the William Bigham who received a grant of land in Greene County, Tennessee, in 1783.
However, in later notes, EWBB stated that Elizabeth Jane Bigham was not the daughter of William, as everyone had suspected, but rather the daughter of Samuel Gregg Bigham, and granddaughter of William Bigham. This would make William and Nathaniel brothers, and their parentage is still uncertain. Esther suggested that they were descended from a John Bigham, though she never proved which John Bigham this could have been. There were several to choose from.
Two of the more prominent possibilities for John as an ancestor were:
John Bigham (1740-1793) of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina
John Bigham (1715/20-1779 of Augusta County, Virginia.
