- My mother was born in Silverton and her maiden name was Alrick. She lived there until after high school when she moved to the "big" town of Salem where she lived until she died. She was a legal secretary before she was married and then she worked in the legislature most sessions as a secretary or on committees. I believe they were married about 1935. Mother LOVED playing cards. I though that was a little curious as she came from a very strict Luthern background and they did nothing like that.
